Last weekend saw the culmination of NOMAN’s sea trials on Southampton Water and the Solent, ahead of the BARCELONA – IBIZA races which start in just 2 weeks time.
This was a great opportunity for the crews to gain experience of sea rowing, winds, tides and currents, necessitating that our crews got to grips with plotting their courses, communicating by VHF Radio, and rowing in 2 hour time slots. All fueled by freeze dried food meals and snack packs. For our crews this was also the chance to put their learning gained in the classroom, online and in the water as part of the RYA courses into practice. All whilst fueled by the freeze dried meals and snack packs that our rowers will be feasting on in the Mediterranean!
As part of the exercise, crews experienced night time rowing for the first time, often a disorientating experience. Thanks to our support team led by Chris Martin for keeping our crews motivated and safe whilst out on the water.
