Trois Etapes Giro: NOMAN arrive in Italy

Despite a minor logistical hiccup as one of NOMEN missed their flight (thanks to the not so Gatwick ‘express’) the team are now all accounted for in within the picturesque village of Caprile in the Italian Dolomites.
And what a setting for the Trois Etapes Giro. Set beneath the impassive Dolomites on all sides, snow clinging on for dear life to any nook or cranny on its sheer faces, it will be to this dramatic backdrop that the riders will set out on tomorrow’s opening stage.
Starting out from Caprile the NOMEN will head straight up the Passo Pordoi, some 2239m, with the average gradient of 6.8% to welcome them to the race. Following a neutral 56km descent into the town of Moena it will be then be onto the Passo San Pellegrino for the second general classification of the day, some 778m in total, before rolling back down into Caprile.
Merely writing such a short entry does not do justice to the trials ahead. So hopefully the stage profiles will help provide a more realistic impression of what is to come. Let’s just say tonight’s film over dinner – footage of last year’s event Trois Etapes Tour, and watching wearied souls tackle torturous climbs – might not have had the desired effect judging by the expressions of some of the NOMEN!
